Design your own hand-printed postcards with original GDR printing clichés! In our cozy studio full of antique printing presses, we spend two hours with ink rollers and analogue printing.
After a short introduction with examples of different techniques, we get started. You will get to know letterpress printing: How do you work with lead letters, how do you create a typesetting or even a layout — without a computer? Then we browse through our selection of old printing plates (also called printing plates) with GDR motifs, roll out printing ink (water-based) and print it on various papers. Many greeting cards are created in a very short time, which you can take with you on the same day.
You don’t need to bring anything with you, the studio is fully equipped. You create at least 10 self-printed cards per person. The printmaking studio is wheelchair accessible, located on the ground floor and has a separate entrance with sliding doors and no steps.

The great engraver Albrecht Dürer already produced some masterpieces of etching. With the development of a suitable copper base, the line etching technique was perfected. No less a figure than Rembrandt, the “magician of etching”, brought this discipline to perfection. New techniques developed, such as aquatint etching, which reached its peak with Goya. To this day, these processes of the great masters have lost none of their fascination. Once you have conquered the high art of the various techniques of etching, you will remain addicted to them.
The participants are introduced to the techniques of etching/intaglio/engraving and have the opportunity to create multiple designs with different techniques such as aquatint, line etching, drypoint, scraping or vernis mou. You will walk home with several prints and/or a small edition! You may also bring your older plates to edit or reprint. Experimental work is also possible. Two presses up to a size of 80 × 100 cm are available for printing. The practical work is accompanied by warm tea and information on the history of etching. Please bring drawings or similar, if available.

Participants will be introduced to the techniques of etching. By means of a simple drypoint etching, the principle of intaglio printing is made comprehensible. With simple tools, wonderful motifs can be created in no time at all, which can be printed with different colours.
This workshop is especially suitable for beginners. “I can’t draw” is no excuse in this workshop. The special character of the incised lines also lends value to scribbles. The embossing typical of gravure printing is also convincing to the touch.
Procedure: short introduction, preparation of the acrylic plates and paper for the folded cards, work on the plates, test prints, possibilities of correction, print runs and card processing — and the Christmas greeting cards are ready!
Material: 1 acrylic plate in DIN-A6 format is included in the workshop price, paper will be charged according to consumption. Consumables (paint, wipe gauze, thinner, etc.) are included in this bill, tools are provided. Current prices are listed on our price page.

One of the world’s first female photographers – Anna Atkins – published the first book exclusively illustrated by photographs as early as 1843/44. For this purpose, she used a delightful technique of analog photography: the cyanotype. With the help of these, photo negatives as well as objects, materials, or stencils can be exposed to UV light and captured on various materials. In a relatively short time, an »impression« of the exposed original, colored in shades of blue is obtained.
Participants will be introduced to the technique of cyanotype. Motifs are developed that can range from photo negatives to collages and impressions of interesting objects. After initial tests on paper, the light-sensitive liquid is applied to tote bags, which are also exposed. You go home with some prints on paper and at least 3 tote bags with your motif.
Material: suitable paper, 3 tote bags per participant, as well as the necessary other materials will be provided. You are welcome to experiment with materials you bring along. If you want to expose digital motifs, we can print foils up to A3 size and create the negative. This way you can also experiment with font etc. Included in the price are a maximum of 5 negatives on DIN-A4 (laser printer) and 1 negative on DIN-A3 (inkjet printer on screen printing foil).

Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of colours and beautiful papers for a day! Experience graffiti art materials, Asian stamps and, above all, lots of fun…
The morning starts with playful drawing relaxation exercises to unleash your creativity. No previous experience is required, just the courage to embark on a creative adventure.
A variety of papers from different times and qualities invite you to design your first printing papers. We make our own rice glue and experiment with a variety of art materials throughout the day.
Spray cans: After the lunch break, we cut spray stencils and expand our pictures with sprayed surfaces. We use number and letter stencils and learn how to use spray cans correctly. From the selection of caps to the right distance to the picture – here you will become a spray professional!
Squeezemaker: Cool pens like the Squeezemaker from the graffiti sector expand our artistic possibilities. With a roller ball and a wide pen tip, we can experiment and have fun.
Stamps: If you want to try out even more new things, you can use roll stamps, Indian wooden stamps and metal letters from letterpress printing to add further accents to the paper.
At the end of the workshop, you can proudly marvel at your own works and take them home with you. In a final round, the participants report on their personal miracles and happy coincidences during the course.
Material: Spray cans, caps, squeezemakers, a sketchbook per participant, various papers, plastic foil, cutters, eddings, printing inks will be provided. Paper by consumption
